Ayurveda Retreat Penukonda
Penukonda, Konda Hills Central South India.
Concept design for an ayurvedic spa retreat on a seven-hectare site in the Konda Hills of Central South India, proposing 35 guest keys across a landscape of individual circular pavilions.
The design is rooted in Vastu Shastra, the ancient Hindu system of spatial organisation, which orders space through the orientation and balance of the four classical elements: fire, earth, water and air. A submerged spa and yoga and meditation complex forms the quiet heart of the scheme, from which the pavilions radiate outward into the landscape.
The architecture draws on historic Hindu formal references while responding directly to the topography and climate of the site.
